Oneness John 17:21-23 PDF Print E-mail

NOTES FROM SUNDAYS 17, 24 and 31 MAY AND 7 JUNE NOW AVAILABLE TO DOWNLOAD - GO TO MENU 'RESOURCES/EQUIPPING RESOURCES'

Gather together to (become one with) me my consecrated ones.        [Psalm 50:5]

We thought we should spend four Sunday’s giving priority to being together in one place at one time.  For these four weeks we would like everyone to give that meeting first priority.  Since the ongoing mentoring and processing needs to go on we would suggest that if you have another gathering that you encourage all of the people who are part of that meeting to make the Sunday meeting the primary commitment and perhaps you could agree to meet either to process what we are doing on Sunday’s together OR in some other form of subsidiary activity.

Our task in gathering all together is to discover more of the ONENESS that Jesus spoke about in John 17:21-23.  As we have often noticed, Jesus defines the relationship we need to develop between believers (anywhere) as that modelled by Himself and the Father.  This is most commonly described in the Gospel of John.  So we intend to spend the four weeks getting a picture of what kind of relationship that is from the relevant passages in that Gospel and “trying them out” on the people who gather there to see how it works.  This is not a time to sense God’s displeasure but to discover his strategies for making us effective to face the challenges we have as His missionary people.

Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.    [Psalm 50:15]

As we discover the greater experience of supernatural oneness we will have opportunity to call on God for his deliverance in the challenges that we have taken up as followers of his Son. The task of learning how to be missionaries in our spheres has all kinds of new challenges for us and we need the grace of God and the power of the Spirit to become effective.  We will also see a pattern emerging where apostolic leadership will flow through the ministry of our church with equipping releasing power.  It will see the priesthood of all believers becoming a greater reality than we have known. We will also see God answer us in the area of financial strength.  God will open ways for us not only to resource our present ministries but to build financial foundations for the further and future ministry.

And he who orders his way aright [who prepares the way that I may show him], to him I will demonstrate the salvation of God. [Psalm 50:23]

It is salvation that God wants to bring, not just deliverance.  Deliverance is a part of salvation.  In fact, it is part of the pathway to salvation.  God had more than deliverance in mind when he opened and then closed the Red Sea.  He brought them to the mountain where they began to become the holy people of God.  Salvation was represented in the Old Testament by a holy people using a promised land as a base to reach the families of all nations.  That salvation was never realized among the Israelites.  We have opportunity to see that salvation, even in microcosmic form as we gather and order our way according to His plan.

Suspending regular operations for a single weekly gathering.

  • DATES:     Sundays May 17, May 24, May 31 and June 7
  • TIME:        9:30 – 11:30 am

The Program

We will model our gathering around a shorter version of what we experienced last Sunday.  We will have two parts to the meeting separated by a morning tea break. The meetings will involve worship, input, interaction, prayer and an implementation brief.  We will seek to learn and to receive and to implement what we see from the model of Jesus and the Father in the Gospel of John.We will also be providing resources to enable people to prepare; things to be praying about and other things to be doing. This is not just a program.  It is a response to something our Father has called us to.  If He can find a genuine faith response in us, even if we don’t get it right in every way, God will pour himself into us in such a way that we will see more of his great glory – not just in a meeting but in the places where we live and work.We hope you will join with the other members of this great team of people for these special gatherings Brian Medway, Graeme Hush, Geoff Roberts and Nola Medway .
